Police have charged former Jamaica Labour Party councillor for Ensom Division in St Catherine, Barrington Bailey, otherwise called ‘Junior’, with illegal possession of firearm.

The 40-year-old, who is a resident of Kirkland Heights in Red Hills, St Andrew, is also a licensed firearm holder.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said Bailey was arrested at a joint police/military checkpoint at Innswood on Old Harbour Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Sunday, February 10.

It further said: “Bailey was arrested about 5:40am after an Acura motorcar he was driving was signalled to stop. When he complied, he accounted for a licensed firearm. However, upon searching the vehicle, an illegal Taurus 9 millimetre pistol was found.”

He is to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday, February 19.
