The Enid Bennett High School (formerly Bog walk High) has received $250,000 from TruJuice to help fund its track and field team that will participate in the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championship, which will be held at the National Stadium in Kingston from March 26-30.

The company, located relatively close to the school in Bog Walk, St Catherine, handed over the cheque yesterday, March 25.

Acting Principal of the school Vincent Mitchell, in accepting the cheque, expressed gratitude for having TruJuice as flagship sponsor.

“We will continue to ‘learn, perform and excel’, but we cannot do it alone. We need more sponsors like TruJuice to align their brand with us; and for more involvement from our past students,” Mitchell said while he oozed optimism that his school will put on a spectacular show at the prestigious contest.

“Our athletes are not from a traditional high school, but we have sent a signal to the rest of high schools; we are a force to be reckoned with,” the principal further declared.

Enid Bennett High, in the meantime, announced its athletic power especially in 2007 when its then student and sprint sensation, Jevaughn Minzie, first entered the track and field stage.

“The school has since made leaps and bounds in track and field, booking their spot at Champs 2019,” the school further said.

It noted that its newest star athlete, Tyrice Taylor, has been creating waves, being the Class Two Boys Champion over 800M.

Taylor also put a 32-year-old schoolboy record under threat recently when he won the Under-20 Boys 800-Metres in fine style, stopping the clock at 1:48.85 in the Digicel Grand Prix final.

The school further noted that its Boys Medley relay team recently got the better of its ‘more revered counterparts’ when it won the event in a record-breaking 3:25.99 seconds at the Gibson Relays.
