Akeem Bloomfield from Jamaica secured his first sub-20 in the 200 Metres, when he won the race at the London Diamond League today.

He said his 19.81 seconds is ‘phenomenal’.

His previous personal best was 20.00 seconds.

Alonso Edward from Panama finished second with a time of 20.01 seconds, while Alex Quinonez from Ecuador was third in 20.13.

Bloomfield immediately downplayed a comparison made between him and sprinting legend Usain Bolt from Jamaica.

Reuters news agency reported him as saying: “I don’t think anyone can ever surpass Usain Bolt, and I don’t think he should be compared with mere mortals like me.

“If I accomplish even half of what he did, it would be an amazing achievement,” added Bloomfield, who also won the 400 Metres in Rabat this month in his first Diamond League race in a time of 44.33 seconds.

He is 20 years old.

In the meantime, Ronald Levy of Jamaica won the 110 Metre Hurdles at the London Diamond League today in a time of 13.13 seconds.

Devon Allen from the United States was second in 13.30 and his compatriot Freddie Crittenden was third in 13.33 seconds.
