Help is available, JCF reminds stressed cops

Following the suspected suicide committed by Senior Superintendent of Police Dermot Lawrence in St James yesterday, the Police High Command has issued an appeal for police officers to seek help when facing stress.

It noted that the necessary mechanisms are are in place to offer professional assistance.

“We are mindful of the intense stressors of the job and the impact these can have on our members’ personal lives and performance,” said the Police High Command, which is headed by Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson.

It added: “We therefore implore our members to avail themselves of the mechanisms that the organisation has established to cater to their overall wellbeing, to include three main support systems – the Volunteer Pastors Programme, the Chaplaincy Unit, and the Medical Services Branch.”
