The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said two alleged gunmen were shot dead and two guns recovered, adding that two police officers were shot and wounded this morning during an operation to apprehend wanted men at West Prospect in Bog Walk, St. Catherine.

One of the deceased is Peter Davis, who is also called ‘Devil’, whom the police said was wanted for murder. The other is 27-year-old Tavani Benjamin.

The JCF said: “Reports from the lawmen are that, about 5:10AM, lawmen were conducting a targeted raid in the area. Upon arrival at the location, the lawmen were met with gunfire. The lawmen took evasive action and returned fire. Two police officers were shot and injured in the process. The gunmen attempted to escape in the community and were intercepted by other members of the team when they were shot. Three 9mm pistols were seized during the incident.”

A firearms accessory and a quantity of ammunition were also recovered from the deceased gunmen, the JCF added.

It explained that its officers, along with soldiers, went to West Prospect to locate and apprehend wanted men who were believed to be hiding in the vicinity of Cashew Walk.

The wanted men, it said, were the late Davis and his cousin Tavani Benjamin, who uses the alias ‘Benji’.

According to the JCF, the cousins were wanted for multiple murders in the Linstead and Bog Walk areas.
It added that the two were involved in the July 14 killing of David Archer, alias ‘Didi Frass,’ who was reputed to be a section leader of the feared One Order Gang that is based in Spanish Town.

“The trio, once friends and gang members, experienced a falling out, leading to Archer’s murder. Davis and Benjamin have been implicated in at least three other murders,” the JCF disclosed in a media statement.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order and ensuring justice for all Jamaicans.

“To the criminals who continue to threaten the peace and safety of our nation, we once again remind them to lay down their weapons and surrender when approached by the police. Violence will not be tolerated, and we are resolute in our mission to uphold the law and protect our citizens,” The JCF warned.

“Meeting the police with violence will only result in dire consequences. We urge you to comply with law enforcement and avoid actions that endanger lives.”

The High Command of the JCF, in the meantime, extended what it said are heartfelt wishes for a swift and complete recovery to the two constables who were injured in the line of duty. One was admitted to hospital in a stable but serious condition, while the other was treated and released.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families during this challenging time. Their remarkable courage and dedication while protecting and serving the citizens of Jamaica have not gone unnoticed. Their actions, alongside those of their fellow officers, reflect the highest standards of the JCF,” the police force said.

It added that both the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the police’s Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau were notified about the incident.
