A police constable whose selfless action while off duty resulted in the capture of two robbers and the recovery of stolen items is on the receiving end of commendation from his seniors in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

The constable, Patroy Gayle, who is assigned to the Area One Technical Services Division, showed his heroics while he responded to reports of a robbery in Hartford, Westmoreland, on Tuesday, March 12.

The JCF, in explaining the cop’s exemplary service, said: “Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar Police are that, about 2:15AM, Constable Gayle was off duty when he was alerted to a robbery taking place at a bar in the community.

“He responded and, on his arrival, a confrontation ensued between him and three men who tried to escape in a motor car. During the confrontation, two of the robbers were shot and subsequently taken to hospital where they remain under police guard,” the JCF further said.

It disclosed that one of Constable Gayle’s legs was broken during the incident, adding that he was treated at hospital.

The JCF, which noted that investigations are ongoing into the matter, appealed for public help in locating the third occupant of the vehicle – Patrick Myles, from a Clarendon address.

Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area One, Donovan Graham, said Constable Gayle went above and beyond the call of duty.

“The actions of the constable truly show that we are a force for good in so many ways. His quick response to the situation has led to the recovery of the items stolen, and placed two men in the custody of the police to answer to their crimes.

“The JCF will continue to uphold the rule of law and safeguard the lives and property of all Jamaicans,” the assistant commissioner added.
