Dalton reaches final; judge vowed to eat her weave if he didn’t

Dalton Harris is among three contestants who on Sunday (November 25) made it into the final of the X Factor UK singing competition.

The Jamaican, who is being touted as the most consistent contestant and the favourite to win, was the first to secure a spot in the final based on votes. The song he belted out was Clown by Emeli Sandé.

The reaction from the audience and judges was overwhelmingly positive. One judge, Robbie Williams, was booed for saying Harris’ performance was ‘a bit boring’.

His wife, Ayda Williams, who is also a judge, thought otherwise. Before the finalists were announced, she vowed to eat her weave if Harris did not make it into the final. “Dalton, you know what, you are an absolute powerhouse!” Ayda shouted as she competed with cheers from the crowd. “You are a giant; you are absolutely mind-blowingly amazing. If you don’t make it into the finals, I will eat my weave.”

Harris, before the results were announced, explained what being a finalist would have meant for him. “Those words, ‘I am in the final‘. I try to articulate exactly what they mean. But pretty much it means the world… If I go to the finals, then I can say I am good enough; I deserve a record deal; I could be an artiste now. I’ve worked really hard,” said Harris, a former winner of Digicel Rising Stars – a national singing competition here in Jamaica.

The other artiste who had a safe passage into the final based on votes is Anthony Russell. He, as well as Harris, is mentored by judge Louis Tomlinson.

Scarlett Lee is the third atiste who advanced to the final, but not before having to put on a fight in a sing-off with duo Acacia and Aaliyah. Based on the judges’ decision, Scarlett advanced and the duo was eliminated.

The X Factor final will be held next weekend (December 1 and 2) at Wembley Arena.
