Charlemont High School in Linstead, St Catherine, is mourning the death of another teacher.

Ian McCleary, 53, passed away last night (June 6) at Medical Associates Hospital in Kingston.

The sudden passing of the Math teacher has hit the educational institution hard, considering that McCleary was on the job a few hours before he died.

He started teaching at Charlemont High in 2012, said Jennifer Gidden, one of the school’s vice-principals.

“Mr McClearly was a meticulous, efficient, and brilliant teacher. The staff and students will miss him.”

“There are tears and sadness at his sudden departure,” Gidden told The Jamaica Beacon.

President of the school’s Past Students Association, Onenetta LaBeach, joined the institution in offering condolences.

“We are saddened by this news and we mourn with the Charlemont High School family. We offer our deepest condolences to the McCleary family,” LaBeach said.

McCleary started his career in education in 2007, according to Charlemont High.

He is the third Charlemont High teacher to have died within less than two years.

A 30-year-old Agriculture Science teacher, Harvil Payne, passed away shortly before daybreak on February 22 this year.

Meanwhile, on February 18 last year, Mathematics teacher Tanijah Howell was murdered in the parish of St Ann.
