The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said a man is now under police guard in hospital, and another has been arrested following a confrontation with members of the security forces yesterday, June 22, in the Kitson Town area of St Catherine.

The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 2PM, a joint police/military team was on duty in the area when they came under gunfire by armed men travelling in a motorcar on the Kitson Town main road.

“The lawmen took evasive action and, following the confrontation, one of the assailant was found with gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he is admitted under police guard. Follow-up operations in the area led to the arrest of another assailant involved in the incident. He was found in possession of a Glock pistol and eight rounds of ammunition, which was subsequently seized,” the JCF further claimed.

It said a Jamaica Defense Force vehicle was damaged during the confrontation, adding that law enforcers are now in search of other men involved in the incident.

The JCF noted that the Independent Commission of Investigations has been informed about the incident. File photo.
