WILLIAMS: We can clean Lluidas Vale Cemetery together

Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for the Lluidas Vale Division in St Catherine, Joel Williams, has offered an open invitation to whoever started the Labour Day project he announced late last week.
He said his project, which is to clean and paint the Lluidas Vale Cemetery, will still be undertaken tomorrow, May 23, considering that the work that started on Monday is incomplete.
On Monday, Monique Brown, who is the administrative assistant to People’s National Party Councillor Hugh Graham, attributed the pre-Labour Day work to Graham.
Graham, in a subsequent interview with The Beacon, denied that he was the one who commenced the work. He however noted that the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, in which he has membership, is the entity responsible for cleaning public cemeteries across the parish.

Williams of the JLP, in the meantime, indicated that he would work even with the PNP in a show of unity on Labour Day, considering that the cemetery – containing the remains of both PNP and JLP supporters – is still in a deplorable condition. He added that residents – especially those with relatives buried in the cemetery – should come out and help with the project.
“We still have everything in motion [to clean the cemetery on Labour Day,” Williams said.
He further told The Beacon: “If it so happens that we go to the cemetery and they are there and we can join in with them, we will join in because Labour Day is about labouring together in love for the benefit of the community and the people.”
