Members of the People’s National Party (PNP) executive in St Catherine North West cleansed sections of Linstead town in the constituency early this morning, May 22.

The party’s candidate in the constituency, Hugh Graham, who was a member of the clean-up team, promised to exert ‘relentless effort’ to ensure that proper garbage disposal becomes the norm in and around the town.

“We are also engaging business people to do proper disposal of their garbage,” he told The Beacon, adding that his team will continue to “press the National Solid Waste Management Authority” to rid the streets of waste.

Graham noted that PNP members, led by Councillor for the Linstead Division – Herbert Garriques, today concentrated their effort on Fletcher’s Avenue near Linstead Market.

He further stated that other streets in Linstead will benefit from similar operations.

“It’s our objective to return Linstead to its former glory that people can be proud of their clean and sanitary surroundings,” Graham said, adding: “This has an impact on our mental state and likewise our behaviour.”

Robert Pickersgill, who is the Member of Parliament for the constituency, is on his way out of representational politics.
