The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) said two guns and 12 spent casings were recovered after businesswoman Janet Hardie-Lawrence was shot dead at her matrimonial home in St Mary.

Her husband, who is a police corporal, has been in custody since the shooting yesterday, May 28, but he has not yet been charged.

INDECOM stated that the two recovered guns – a service pistol and a licensed firearm – belong to the husband.
It added that its investigators will revisit the incident scene today to make further enquiries.

Meanwhile, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), more than 24 hours after the killing, issued its first media release, stating that it too is conducting further investigations.

It, in relation to the killing, said: “Reports are that, about 6:30AM, residents heard gunshots and summoned the police.

“On their arrival, Hardy-Lawrence was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The body was removed to the morgue for post mortem. Her husband has been taken into custody in connection with the murder. His name is being withheld until charges are proffered,” added the JCF.
