The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said two men were murdered in separate incidents in St Mary and St Andrew yesterday, December 31.

It reported that, in the St Mary incident, 48-year-old shopkeeper Hugh Bennett from Bailey’s Vale in Port Maria was chopped to death in his community.

“Reports from the Port Maria Police are that, about 2am, residents reportedly heard cries coming from Bennett’s home. On their arrival, his body was seen in a pool of blood with multiple chop wounds. The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue,” added the JCF.

It further stated that, in relation to the murder in St Andrew, 52-year-old Delmore Johnson from Tavern Avenue in the parish was shot dead.

“Reports are that, about 6:30pm, lawmen were on patrol when explosions were heard,” the JCF said. “Subsequent checks made at a plaza in Papine revealed the body of Johnson, which had several gunshot wounds. The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue.”
