Bloody start – Murder rate climbs to 3 in August Town

The murder rate in August Town, St Andrew, climbed to three on the first day of the new year.

The police Corporate Communications Unit confirmed that ‘two unidentified men were shot dead by unknown assailants’ on the August Town main about 7:20pm yesterday, January 1.

It said more information regarding that incident will be provided later.

The Unit earlier reported that the first murder took place about 8:55am yesterday along the Mentio roadway in the community. The victim is 34-year-old construction worker Omar Johnson from Peyton Place in August Town.

The police reported that two men shot Johnson in the upper body while he walked along the Mentio roadway. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
