Shanique, we miss you | weeping mom appeals for daughter’s return

After taking a full week off the job to help search for her 24-year-old daughter, Carline Thompson is returning to work today with a heavy heart.

She is yet to locate her daughter Shanique Burke, otherwise called Musky, from Eltham Park in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Shanique disappeared on Thursday, September 27, after leaving home for what was expected to be a brief trip to Spanish Town.

“She is not the type of person to go out and don’t come back home. She is a stay-in type of person. If you don’t call her out, she won’t be coming out,” said the weeping mother.

She added: “Shanique is a very jovial person; always smiling. She has a kind heart and is always helping somebody out.”

The entire family is distraught, but clinging onto hope, the mother said.

“Each time when I pick up a piece of food, I cannot eat because I don’t know if she is eating. When I try to sleep, I don’t know if she is sleeping. If people have her, I don’t even know what they are doing to her,” she told The Beacon.

She, in the meantime, made this appeal to anyone who may be holding Shanique against her will: “If anybody out there has Shanique Burke, I am asking you please please please – the family is devastated; we are on the edge of breaking down; we are asking you to please let her go.”

The mother, along with Shanique’s step-father Rohan Reece, also implored the young woman to return home if she is free to do so.

“Shanique, we miss you; we really need you to come back home,” the stepfather said. “The family is restless without you being here; we need you back home; call someone please.”

He further told The Beacon that, like other members of the family, he believes his step-daughter is still alive. “I honestly still believe in my heart that she is still here with us; she hasn’t died.”

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), in the meantime, said Shanique is of black complexion, slim build, and is about 165 centimetres (5 feet 5 inches) tall.

When she was last seen, she was at home wearing a black merino, blue jeans and a pair of black slippers.

The JCF said anyone knowing the whereabouts of Shanique should contact the Spanish Town Police at 876-984-2305, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
