Footballer plays crucial match days after losing ‘supportive’ mother
October 8, 2018Keniesha Bell was full of life as she walked across the playing field at Ewarton Sports Complex in St Catherine on Saturday afternoon, September 22.
She had journeyed several miles from her Annotto Bay home in St Mary to watch her son Marlon Martin captain Charlemont High School to a 1-0 win over Ewarton High, in daCosta Cup action.
It was Marlon’s 19th birthday, and his mom could not miss seeing him play.
She, midway through the game, struck the following pose for our camera:
Bell, at the time of journeying the relatively long distance to cheer her son, did not have the slightest idea she would have died of asthma just over a week later, October 3.
“I could give my mom a lot of descriptions, but loving and supportive would stand out,” Marlon told The Beacon, adding: “Her passing has taken a toll on me and our family members. We are just fighting to feel better.”
The youngster, who wants to become a professional footballer, explained how he mustered the courage to participate in a daCosta Cup match his school played against Dinthill Technical High three days after his mother passed away.
“The love and support from my teammates and family keep me going,” Marlon noted.

He further told The Beacon that he will continue to work hard for success; the way his mom taught him to.
“My mother might not be here physically, but she is always in my heart,” Marlon declared.
He promised: “I will be doing nothing but greatness.”
