Security guard in hospital after being shot by licensed firearm holder
July 3, 2018The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said a security guard is in hospital following a widely publicized shooting incident at an apartment complex on Braemar Avnue in New Kingston about 5:30pm yesterday, July 2.
A licensed firearm holder shot the plain-clothed guard in the upper body.
The Corporate Communications Unit of the JCF told Jamaica Beacon that an investigation is underway and an update will be provided. It is understood that the gun used in the shooting has been seized.
It is not yet clear how the incident started.
However, an amateur videos of the altercation shows two civilians in a verbal clash with security guards – mainly in KingAlrm uniform. The guards were being accused of not allowing the licensed firearm holder to leave the property.
The plain-clothed security guard then attacked the licensed firearm holder from behind. At that point, the firearm holder was not brandishing a weapon.
Both men fell to the ground and other persons at the location tried to separate them.
That’s when the licensed firearm holder seemingly shot the plain-clothed security guard, and later claimed that the said guard was trying to take away his gun. The wounded guard was later seen walking away.
A group of uniformed security guards on location then took the gun away from the licensed firearm holder.
They eventually handcuffed him, but not before some seemingly kicked and slapped him while he was subdued.
A female security guard, at the beginning of the video, is also heard spitting several expletives at the licensed firearm holder and threatening to shoot him. The firearm holder threatened to have her fired.
