Portmore man charged for 21 guns
March 13, 2019The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said its Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations Branch has made a major breakthrough regarding the seizure of 21 guns and 791 rounds of ammunition at a container terminal in Kingston on Tuesday, February 26.
Twenty-eight-year-old Jevaughnie McKay, a temporary worker at a container terminal in Kingston, was arrested and charged with illegally importing firearms and ammunition.
He is from Cressa Lane in Old Braeton, Portmore, St Catherine.
The charge was laid following a formal interview in the presence of McKay’s attorney on Tuesday, March 12. The accused will appear in court on Friday, March 15.
The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 10:50AM, a joint operation between the police and the Contraband Enforcement Team of Jamaica Customs led to the seizure of 20 firearms and 791 assorted rounds of ammunition, shipped from an address in the United States of America.
“Another search was conducted on Wednesday, February 27, where an additional firearm was seized. Subsequent multi-agency investigations led to the accused being arrested and charged,” added the JCF, which noted that investigations are ongoing.
