People stood in unusually constant queues outside automated banking machines (ABMs) and money transfer agencies in Linstead, St Catherine, for several hours yesterday – in the broiling sun and otherwise.
Some money transfer agencies were packed up to 8pm when they would usually be closed.
Meanwhile, a number of people, by sundown, were heard complaining about technical issues and a shortage of cash at some outlets.
Jamaicans will, on Monday (December 24), participate in their busiest shopping day of the year – Grand Market. At that time, the rush for cash is expected to intensify – not only in Linstead, but across the island.
