Nothing in my mind will stop me | Shelly finds strength in pain

One of the most decorated female sprinters internationally, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, has declared that nothing in her mind can stop her from achieving her goals, now that she has returned to competition after a brief hiatus.

“Now that I am coming back, nothing in my head and in my mind – nothing, nothing will stop me from achieving what it is that I have in my head – nothing,” she said.

Fraser-Pryce said her resolve has been strengthened by her participation in the 100 metres final at the Rio Olympics in 2016, despite grappling with a toe injury. During her break, she also gave birth to a baby boy, Zyon.

The athlete, who returned to the track recently, reasoned: “Sometimes pain is our source of strength. It is our way to bring out things in us that we never knew we had.”

“I am telling you that, in 2016, if somebody told me that I would be standing at the line with a toe pain so great and still compete, I would say nope. But I did it. As a result of doing that, there is this peace and this strength, and there is this hunger, and there is this thirst that I never knew I had,” Fraser-Pryce further said during a ceremony, which was held to unveil the maquette of a statue Government has commissioned in her honour.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old sprinter’s time has been improving gradually since she returned to competition in the 100 metres.

During the Jamaica National Senior Championships in Kingston this month, she finished second with another season’s best (11.09 seconds).
