No peace in Cassava Piece – curfew imposed

June 7, 2018 0 By Horace Mills

Following a series of fatal and non-fatal shootings in the Cassava Piece area of St Andrew, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has imposed a curfew in the area.

The curfew started at 6 o’ clock this evening (June 7) and will remain in effect until 6 o’ clock Saturday evening, the JCF said.

It added that the boundaries of the two-day curfew are:

NORTH – along Glen Drive from the intersection of Mannings Hill Road and Glen Drive, with an imaginary line to Grosvenor Terrace.

SOUTH – along Clifton Boulevard from the intersection of Mannings Road and Clifton Boulevard, with an imaginary line to Constant Spring Road.

EAST – from Grosvenor Terrace to Constant Spring Road.

WEST – from the intersection of Glen drive and Mannings Hill Road, to the intersection of Clifton Boulevard and Mannings Hill Road.

The JCF said all persons within the boundaries of the curfew are required to remain within their premises unless otherwise authorized in writing by the ground commander.

Meanwhile, the Cassava Piece community has been tense since last Saturday (June 2) when a gunman reportedly fired several shots at Dancehall artiste David ‘Mavado’ Brooks. A man has been arrested in relation to the shooting, and Mavado has missed a deadline the police had given him to surrender.

In another shooting also last Saturday, a 36-year-old security guard from Cassava Piece, Ian ‘Gaza’ Robinson, was shot dead while he played a game of dominoes on Constant Spring Road Road, St Andrew.

Gunmen, in an incident on June 5, also invaded a home in Cassava Piece. While there, they shot and chopped 23-year-old Lorenza ‘Israel’ Thomas before they set his body ablaze.

There was another shooting incident last night (June 6) when a man and a woman were shot and wounded at their gate on Glen Drive in Cassava Piece. They were taken to hospital for treatment.
