The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said its officers have charged the woman arrested in relation to the theft of a baby at Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James on January 4.
Melissa Hariott, 26, from Norwood in Montego Bay, St James, is charged with the offence of child stealing.
The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 1:50pm, the child’s mother reportedly left the baby in the care of the suspect to use the restroom and, upon her return, neither her child nor Melissa Hariott was seen. The police were summoned and an investigation commenced.”
Hariott will appear in the St James Parish Court next week.
Meanwhile, the JCF today made no mention of Hariott’s boyfriend who also taken into custody at the time of the police operation that resulted in the child being found at Harriot’s residence two days after she was stolen.
