The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has reported at least two cases of suspected suicide on the island so far this year.
They happened in Clarendon and St Elizabeth.
In the first case, 65-year-old farmer Vincroft Nephew from Neif Mountain in Rosehall, St Elizabeth, purportedly committed suicide on Sunday, January 6.
The JCF said: “Reports from the Junction Police are that, about 10am on January 5, Nephew left his home and did not return. His relatives became worried and formed a search party. At about 3pm, he was found by family members hanging by a length of rope attached to a tree. The police were summoned and he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.”
Meanwhile, the JCF stated that, in the other case, 39-year-old Nigel Mundle from Reaches district in Spaulding, Clarendon, is suspected to have committed suicide in his community on Tuesday, January 8.
It added: “Reports from the Spaulding Police are that, about 10am, residents stumbled upon the body by a gully in the area and summoned them. Upon their arrival, the body was seen with a rope around his neck hanging from a tree. The body was removed to the morgue.”
Investigations are continuing in both cases, the JCF further noted.
