Lluidas Vale: Page officially declares interest in becoming next councillor

With the click of a mouse this morning, September 26, Kayon Page officially communicated to the People’s National Party (PNP) his interest in becoming the party’s candidate in the Lluidas Vale Division of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation.

The party has an impending vacancy in the division as the current councillor, Hugh Graham, will move up to become PNP general election candidate for St Catherine North West, where Lluidas Vale is located. Graham will replace the retiring Robert Pickersgill.

“I am officially making the claim now that I have 100 percent interest in the Lluidas Vale Division,” said Page, a Lluidas Vale native who owns and operates a restaurant and catering service.

He attended Lluidas Vale Primary School, Dinthill Technical High and Titchfield High. Page said he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chef Culinary Management from Western Hospitality Institute.

His grandparents are Anita Page and Vincent Page who was a well-known clergyman in Lluidas Vale.

“I am coming to Lluidas Vale with my family background; and I am coming there with my own background,” Page told The Beacon in an exclusive interview.

He further stated that, in his political background, is some 15 years of ‘tremendous’ service to the PNP, especially in St Catherine South where PNP Chairman Fitz Jackson is Member of Parliament.

Page said he served in various capacities, including Chairman of the PNP Youth Organization in St Catherine.

“I have the experience; I have grown; and I understand leadership,” he posited.

“I know that you can go to school to lead, but you have to be born a leader to lead. You have to have the passion for the people; I have the passion for people.”

Page told The Beacon that a number of Lluidas Vale people have approached him, asking him to make the big move to become their next councillor.

“It is only fitting for me to step up to the plate because I have been asked by the people of Lluidas Vale if I am interested in representing them…”

He continued: “After carefully thinking about it, I consulted with my family and I consulted with some friends from Lluidas Vale who are not living there but who share the same passion as myself.”

It is not yet clear if Page will face any challenge for the position; neither is it clear when Graham’s successor will be selected.

But Page thinks his chances of winning are as good now as they will be in the future.

“I think my chances are 100 percent that I will be the next councillor for the Lluidas Vale Division after Comrade Hugh Graham makes it official that he will no longer represent the people of Lluidas Vale [as councillor],” Page further declared.
