LINSTEAD: Women make lasting impression as school gets wall

A group of women threw down the gauntlet to their male counterparts during the construction of a wall at the back of the playing field at Bermaddy Primary School, located in the Treadways area of Linstead, St Catherine.

The Labour Day project was spearheaded by the Florida chapter of the school’s Past Students Association, represented on the ground by Treasurer Pauline Burke.

The initiative received support from members of staff, school board Chairman Dr Beverly Johnson, and other persons associated with the educational institution.

The labour was done with love and fun, and an informal contest between the sexes.

“It brought about chills seeing our mothers measuring up to the males and even working harder,” said Amoy Levers, President of the Parents Teachers Association.

The women indeed made a lasting impression even on male workers such as George Plummer and Oniel ‘Fabbi’ Kenkley. “The ladies beat dem bad,” Fabbi posited.

Levers, in the meantime, expressed hope that more people – especially males, will become involved in efforts to further improve the school.
