Hanover drug mule sentenced in St James

A Jamaican man who last year was charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act following a cocaine seizure in Montego Bay, St James, has been ordered to pay $250,000 or spend six months in jail.

Sixty-year-old Lloyd Arnold from Hopewell in Hanover was sentenced yesterday, February 14, in the St James Parish Court.

The Narcotics Police arrested him at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay about 1 o’clock on the morning of Monday, 17 December 2018.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force said its officers interviewed Arnold when he arrived in the island on a flight from Panama, adding that their suspicion was aroused by his actions and answers to questions.

He subsequently expelled 14 packages containing cocaine while he was hospitalized under police guard.

Arnold was later charged with Possession Of Cocaine – for which he was fined $100,000 or six months imprisonment, and Importing Cocaine – for which he was fined $150,000 or six months imprisonment.

He was also given an additional nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. That means he will serve the nine months if he commits another offence within the next two-year period.
