GSAT achiever with 93.4 percent average serious about journalismJuly 3, 2018
She knows what she wants.
Diedriana Plummer has a burning desire to become a top flight writer and journalist.
She told Jamaica Beacon that she has started her first children’s book. She is also a community journalist for USAID COMET II – a community empowerment project funded by USAID.
“I have been interested in journalism ever since I was four,” Diedriana explained.
“It helps me to express myself and to also share other people’s stories.”
Notwithstanding her penchant for media, the 12-year-old, who also is President of the Integrity Action Club at her school, is busy building a foundation of academic excellence.
She attends St Michaels Primary School in Kingston, and recently scored a 93.4 percent average in the Grade Six Achievement Test.
Plummer promised to stay on track when she starts Ardenne High School in September.
“I feel grateful as my hard work has paid off,” she said in relation to her GSAT results. She also showed Jamaica Beacon a plethora of trophies and certificates of excellence she accumulated over the years.
While being grateful to her GSAT teacher Camecia Vassell, along with others who contributed to her success, Diedriana said she will ‘continue the hard work’ in secondary school.
Her mother, Deidre Dixon, is pleased with the GSAT grades.
“I am extremely proud of her,” she declared.
“Despite losing our home to fire during the preparation for GSAT, Diedriana remained focused. I have been very supportive of her, and I expect her to continue to achieve academic success.”
