He worked assiduously for the 10 perfect grades, but they still seemed surreal.
Raheed Gilzene, who has grown to accept the enormity of his success, has brought jubilation to his family, St Jago High School in Spanish Town, and his rural community of West Prospect in Bog Walk, St Catherine.
“I am extremely proud of the results I have gotten and I am feeling truly blessed to have done so well,” he told The Beacon.
“When I first received my results, I was extremely amazed. I kept reloading the (online) page to make sure that what I was seeing was real.”
According to preliminary results from the Caribbean Examination Council, Gilzene achieved 10 Grade Ones (the best grade possible) in the following subjects:
English A – Grade One
English B (Literature) – Grade One
Spanish – Grade One
Mathematics – Grade One
Principles of Accounts – Grade One
Physics – Grade One
Office Administration – Grade One
Principles of Business – Grade One
Social Studies – Grade One
Information Technology – Grade One
As it relates to Grade Profiles, the 17-year-old attained straight ‘A’ in seven subjects, including Mathematics and English A.
He will enroll in the sixth form programme at St Jago High.
The young scholar, whose parents are Lilieth and Winston Gilzene, wants to make it big in the construction industry.
His ultimate goal is to design and build houses – many low-income houses.
