The perfect scorer – Teen dedicates 10 CXC subjects to hardworking parents
August 27, 2019Darla Campbell from the West Cumberland area of Portmore, St Catherine, is still in a jubilant mood after recently accomplishing the highest grade possible (Grade One) in 10 CSEC subjects, administered by the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).
“I am extremely happy about my results,” she told The Beacon.
The Campion College graduate has attained these subjects:
- English A – Grade One
- Mathematics – Grade One
- Biology – Grade One
- French – Grade One
- Physics – Grade One
- Spanish – Grade One
- Chemistry – Grade One
- English B (Literature) – Grade One
- Information Technology – Grade One
- Additional Mathematics – Grade One
Darla told The Beacon that her parents’ hard work was a driving force behind her stellar academic performance.
“My parents have worked tremendously hard to be able to provide the supplies that I have deemed necessary for my success and, because I know how hard they work, that pushes me to put forward only my best effort in order to make them proud, and to show them that their hard work is not going to waste,” she said.
Darla, a firm believer in God, wants to become a medical doctor or a biochemical engineer.
She will further her studies in the sixth form programme at Campion College.
Her mother, Michelle Finnikin-Campbell, spoke highly of her daughter’s academic performance over the years.
“I am elated because I know she works extremely hard. She often stays up late in the nights to ensure that all assignments are done and also to study,” she explained.
“Darla was always doing well from prep school; she was top GSAT student at St Andrew Preparatory and also a Government scholarship awardee,” the mother further said. Darla’s dad, in the meantime, is Donovan Campbell.
