The cases of suspected suicide reported since the start of the year have risen to at least five.
The latest person to die is 16-year-old Sydonie Johnson, otherwise called Shantie, from Newton district in St Elizabeth.
She is suspected to have committed suicide at her home last evening, January 19.
In relation to that case, the Jamaica Constabulary Force said: “Reports are that, about 9:30pm, Sydonie was found hanging by the neck from an ackee tree in her yard. The police were summoned and the body was cut down and removed to the morgue.”
The Lacovia Police are conducting further investigations in that matter.
Meanwhile, in the other cases of suspected suicide reported so far this year, the deceased are 78-year-old Anns Simpson from Wild Street in Kingston, 29-year-old Nordia Markland from Shannon Lloyd Crescent in Clarendon, 39-year-old Nigel Mundle from Spaulding in Clarendon, and 65-year-old farmer Vincroft Nephew from Rosehall in St Elizabeth.
