The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said a homemade firearm was handed over to the Gayle Police in St Mary after it was found in bushes during an attempted robbery at Chapel Spring district in the parish.

It further said reports are that, about 7:45 last evening, January 23, a salesman drove home and parked his vehicle at the rear of his premises.

“He was approached by an armed man who attempted to rob him. An alarm was raised and the salesman was assisted by residents who accosted the suspect. However, he managed to escape in bushes,” added the JCF.

“The area was searched and the homemade firearm, resembling a pistol, was found and handed over to the police.”

No one was arrested in connection with the find, the JCF said, noting that investigations are continuing.
