St Mary man allegedly commits suicide

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting another case of suspected suicide; this time in the parish of St Mary.

The deceased is 55-year-old Byron Williams, otherwise called ‘Pirate’, from Rose End district in the parish.

He allegedly committed suicide at his home.

The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 8pm [yesterday], Williams was at home when he allegedly ingested ethylene. He was taken to hospital where he was receiving treatment. However, he succumbed about 6:20am today, January 22.”

Investigations are continuing, added the JCF.

The St Mary incident brings to at least six, the number of persons suspected to have committed suicide locally within the first month of the year.

The other deceased are 16-year-old Sydonie ‘Shantie’ Johnson from Newton district in St Elizabeth, 65-year-old farmer Vincroft Nephew from Rosehall in St Elizabeth, 78-year-old Anns Simpson from Wild Street in Kingston, 29-year-old Nordia Markland from Shannon Lloyd Crescent in Clarendon, and 39-year-old Nigel Mundle from Spaulding in Clarendon.
