ST ANN: Man reported missing found in police lockup

A family in St Ann is breathing a sign of relief after its loved one, Kenroy Venson, who was believed to be missing for three days, was found last evening in a St Catherine cell, charged for alleged possession of a knife.

The family had been in a tailspin since Saturday evening, December 8, when Venson did not show up at his St Ann home.

His relatives told The Beacon that he left a family home at Caymanas Bay in St Catherine about 11 o’clock Saturday morning.

He was expected to travel to downtown Kingston, where he would catch a bus heading towards his hometown of Brown’s Town, St Ann.

When Venson did not reach home Saturday night, the family became increasingly concerned and distressed.
His phone rang until it died.

Before Venson was found, The Beacon contacted the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the police force to find out if a ‘missing person’ report was made.

In response, the CCU explained that, when it contacted the Brown’s Town Police Station, officers there said someone visited the facility to make a ‘missing person’ report, but was told to do so at another police station in St Ann.

A frustrated Marvalyn Edwards, mother of the man who could not be found, yesterday left St Ann and went to Kingston in search of Venson.

She told The Beacon that, when she visited a sixth police station, she was informed that Venson has been locked up at Hundred Man Police Station for possession of a knife.

“I went to five stations and they couldn’t find any information on him; I went to the last one and they said dem lock him down for knife since Saturday night,” Edwards explained. “Nobody gave any information or called the family. I am feeling upset; a whole lot of stress.”

Edwards said she was told that her son is likely to be granted bail today, December 12.
