Chanique Cobourne has her eyes fixed on becoming a forensic pathologist.
“Seeing that there is a shortage of forensic pathologists in Jamaica, I would like to step in to help reduce the backlog of autopsies,” she told The Beacon.
The resident of Lauriston in Spanish Town, St Catherine, already amassed the academic qualifications to catapult her virtually within striking range of her big dream.
The Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) indicates that Cobourne recently left Immaculate Conception High with 21 subjects – all in Grade One, the highest grade achievable.
Of those subjects, 10 are CAPE, which were attained in sixth form over a two-year period. They are:
Biology (Unit One) – Grade One
Biology (Unit Two) – Grade One
Chemistry (Unit One) – Grade One
Chemistry (Unit Two) – Grade One
Physics (Unit One) – Grade One
Physics (Unit Two) – Grade One
Communication Studies – Grade One
Pure Mathematics (Unit One) Grade One
Pure Mathematics (Unit Two) Grade One
Caribbean Studies – Grade One
Prior to achieving those CAPE subjects, Cobourne, three years ago, earned 11 subjects in CSEC.
The following are her CSEC results:
Mathematics – Grade One
Physics – Grade One
Chemistry – Grade One
Biology – Grade One
English A – Grade One
English B (Literature) – Grade One
Spanish – Grade One
Human and Social Biology – Grade One
Information Technology – Grade One
Geography – Grade One
Social Studies – Grade One
“My hard work, determination and the sleepless nights put into studying has finally paid off,” the young scholar told The Beacon.
She wants people preparing for CSEC and CAPE exams to resist the temptation to be silent in ignorance.
“Don’t take for granted any topic you may not know. Ask your teacher or a friend to help you,” Cobourne advised, adding: “The topic that you might not understand could come on the exam.”
The high achiever, who is the daughter of Ann-Marie and Kenneth Cobourne, was not only an academic giant at Immaculate Conception High.
She held seven leadership positions – including prefect, and also was involved in 11 extracurricular activities.
