Narcotics Police are probing the seizure of approximately 1,384 pounds of compressed ganja and the arrest of three men along the coastline in Black River, St Elizabeth, yesterday, September 27.

The police force stated that, about 8pm, members of the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard were patrolling the area when they spotted a boat with three men aboard.

“The men were acting in a manner that aroused the suspicion of the soldiers, hence the vessel was intercepted, searched and 29 bags of compressed ganja found,” the police force said.

“The men were subsequently arrested and the drugs, along with the vessel, seized and handed over to the police. The ganja has an estimated street value of $5.5 million.”

Police said the suspects’ identities are being withheld until formal charges are proffered, adding that investigations are continuing.
