Portland student attains Grade One in CXC Math at 14 years old
September 27, 2018Keni-Jay Cross, a student at Titchfield High School in Portland, turned 15 years old this month.
A few months ago while she was still 14, she sat CSEC Mathematics, administered by the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).
Preliminary result from CXC shows that she attained the best grade (Grade One) in the subject.
Cross, who hails from White River in Portland, said she is not surprised by the result because she worked hard and consistently does well in Mathematics.
She scored 98 percent in the subject in the Grade Six Achievement Test in 2015 while she was enrolled at Bradford Preparatory School.
In preparation for CSEC this year, Cross attended evening classes hosted by Math teacher Nigel Phipps in Annotto Bay, St Mary.
She also got help from her Math teacher at Titchfield High, Albert Smith, as well as Leighann Minott who attends Mico University.
Cross wants to become a veterinary scientist or a marine biologist.
