Amid report that two female tourists were sexually assaulted at gunpoint in their room at Riu Reggae Hotel in Montego Bay, St James, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has declared that the safety of visitors is still a top priority.
It said: “The Police High Command is giving the assurance that visitor safety and security remains a top priority. This comes against a report being investigated by the police where two visitors were reportedly sexually assaulted.”
The JCF noted that a suspect is in custody in relation to the allegations, and is undergoing a series of interviews in the presence of his lawyer.
“Additionally, several avenues of investigation have been identified and are being actively pursued which will unearth further details as the investigation progresses,” added the JCF.
The suspect, who is from Ocho Rios in St Ann, was apprehended in Clarendon.
