Mother appeals for child reportedly seen in Linstead

Another glimmer of hope in finding 14-year-old Aliyah Hibbert of Guy’s Hill in St Mary appeared yesterday, November 28, when an informant told the family that the missing girl was spotted at a premises in the Linstead area of St Catherine.

The information did not seem far-fetched, considering that Linstead is a mere taxi away from Guy’s Hill.

The child’s mother, who gave her name as Latty Brown, told The Beacon this morning that a relative went to Linstead to make checks, based on the information received. However, the relative was told that Aliyah is no longer at the location where she allegedly was spotted. It is said that the child does not have any close relative in Linstead.

The mother said her daughter, who is usually in the company of another girl from Guy’s Hill, is not the type of person one would expect to run away from home.

“My daughter only lives from school to yard,” Brown told The Beacon. “Everybody is weeping because they know the type of person she is. Nobody naah look fi certain things happen.”

The mother said she last saw her daughter on Monday, November 19, while she was leaving home to attend Guy’s Hill High School.

Aliyah’s friends and classmates said she did not attend school on Monday, Brown said, adding that the disappearance has taken a toll on her.

“I pray every night and day for her to come home,” she said. “Mi cyaan come to this all now; mi can’t eat and mi can’t sleep.”

The mother further stated that she had a good relationship with Aliyah, whose dream is to become a teacher.

“She is a jovial little person,” Brown added. “She is my everything.”

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), in the meantime, said Aliyah is of brown complexion, slim build and is about 168 centimetres (5 feet 6 inches) tall.

“At the time [Aliyah was last seen], she was dressed in her school uniform – a white blouse, a blue tunic, a blue tie and black shoes and socks. She was also carrying a black and white knapsack,” the JCF further said.

It stated that anyone knowing the whereabouts of Aliyah should contact the Guy’s Hill police at 876-994-3333, the police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
