Man, woman expel $2.6M worth of cocaine at hospital
August 4, 2018The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said detectives assigned to the Narcotics Division charged a male and a female for breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act at the Norman Manley International Airport yesterday, August 3.
They are 58-year-old higgler Miriam Thompson from Norwood in St James and 56-year-old construction worker Edson Berry from Portmore in St Catherine.
The JCF said: “Reports are that on Sunday, July 29, 2018, about 4am, Thompson and Berry arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on a flight destined from Guyana.
“They were screened during a security screening and were subsequently taken to hospital where Berry expelled 68 homemade capsules weighing approximately 2 pounds, and Thompson seventy-one weighting about 2.1 pounds all containing cocaine,” the JCF further said.
The two were charged with:
– Importing cocaine
– Possession of cocaine
– Dealing in cocaine.
The drug seized has an estimated street value of $2.6 million, the JCF said.
Thompson and Berry are to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday, August 8.
