Man held for rapes at one hotel | wanted men captured at anotherSeptember 29, 2018
A total of six men are now in custody as the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) intensifies its probe into two separate incidents in which different hotels at Montego Bay in St James have been implicated.
Police yesterday apprehended a trainee of Riu Reggae Hotel after he allegedly stole a gun from a guest, invaded a room occupied by two American women, and raped them at gunpoint.
While he was committing the second rape, the gun reportedly fell and one of the victims picked it up and shot the rapist, who allegedly escaped on foot.
A trail of blood at the hotel suggests he was shot, police sources have said.
The worker, who was nabbed while he sought treatment at May Pen Hospital in Clarendon, is said to be from Exchange in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
RIU Hotel, in a statement, said the incident happened two nights ago, September 27.
“There was a very unfortunate incident in the Riu Reggae Hotel in which two guests were attacked by a trainee at the entertainment department of the hotel. The man, who had been in training for only three days, was able to escape.
“The hotel management immediately called the police and accompanied and supported the guests with everything in this difficult moment. We are unable to share further details, both for the protection of our clients’ privacy, as well as to not interfere in the investigation being already carried out by the local authorities,” the hotel’s management further said.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, JCF officers swooped down on another hotel – Hotel Gloriana – and apprehended five men yesterday morning.
They seized two illegal guns during that pre-dawn operation.
The men were wanted for at least one gun crime committed in St James.
