LLUIDAS VALE: Heavy gunfire as robbers hit community again

November 27, 2018 0 By Horace Mills

Several residents of Lluidas Vale, St Catherine North West, are telling The Beacon that there was heavy gunfire amid an attempted robbery in the centre of their community close to midnight on Tuesday, November 27.

A relatively large crowd, as well as law enforcers, was at the location at publication time.

Details of what unfolded are still sketchy, but it is understood that a pastry shop in the town centre was among the businesses targeted by robbers.

It is not yet clear who was firing the shots that sent people scampering for cover.

The usually quiet community of Lluidas Vale has been thrown into chaos since Government demolished the police station, which is located in the centre of the small town.

The police officers are now temporarily occupying a building in a remote area of the community – near a canefield.

The new police station that residents want to become operational before Christmas

A new station to replace the one demolished in the town centre is virtually complete, but there is no indication as to when it will become operational.

A number of residents have expressed concern that the crime situation may worsen as Christmas approaches, especially if the police are not made to occupy the new station in the town centre ahead of the festive season.

“They need to open the police station now or wi may die before Christmas,” said one of the irate residents who called The Beacon.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has been building the new police station for about two years now. The project initially was scheduled to be completed in November last year.
