Linstead native shot dead in US

A native of Linstead in St Catherine has been shot dead by police at North Washington Street in Wilmington, Delaware, United States of America.

He is Ricardo Henry Hylton, 35.

Wilmington police said they responded to a call about shots being fired minutes after 7 o’clock in the evening yesterday, August 30.

They added that, when they arrived at the location, they saw a man ‘actively firing’ a gun.

Two police officers engaged the man and fired shots, hitting him. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The gun he allegedly was firing has been recovered at the scene.

Wilmington police said the Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards, and the Delaware Department of Justice are probing the incident.

Hylton is a past student of Linstead Primary School.

A number of his relatives still live in Linstead.

Since the shooting, people in Jamaica and the United States have been expressing shock on social media, adding that Hylton was a person of good repute.
