I am victimized – Dalley cries foul while promising seventh victory

Member of Parliament for Clarendon Northern, Horace Dalley, has expressed confidence that he will win the constituency a seventh time for the People’s National Party (PNP), adding that the feat will be attained despite ‘victimization’ by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) government.

“I want comrades to understand that there is a difference – a big difference between when your party is in power and when your party is out of power. I make absolutely no mistake when I said I know that, from 2016 [when JLP won the election], our constituency has been victimized and continues to be victimized,” he told party supporters on Sunday, November 10.

Dalley added: “Mi not begging again; mi not begging fi all the roads wi begging for. Three years wi been begging and begging, but their time will soon end.”

The Member of Parliament, who was addressing his constituency conference held at Kellits High School, has won the seat six times – in 1989, 1993, 1997, 2002, 2011, and 2016.

He was defeated only once – in 2007 by the then JLP candidate Lawrence ‘Laurie’ Broderick.

Dalley, in the next election, will be challenged by Dwight Sibblies of the JLP.

He made it clear that he will not back down from the political clash.

“If I am to really turn up the heat on this fellow, it will be weeping and wailing,” Dalley posited.

He continued: “I say we have been through many battles; we have been through many wars; we have been through trials, crosses, and tribulations…wi nuh back. But nobody, nobody – nobody will ever come to North Clarendon and intimidate PNP people.”

Dalley also told his party leader, who was in earshot, not to worry about Clarendon Northern.

“I say to you my bredren [Dr. Peter Phillips], this constituency, if it is the only one left to ensure that you become the next Prime Minister of Jamaica, don’t worry,” he said.

Meanwhile, Councillor for the Croft’s Hill Division in Clarendon, Anthony O’Connor, is also upbeat about victory for his party in the constituency.

“If dem target North Clarendon from the north; if dem target North Clarendon from the south; if dem target North Clarendon from the east; and if dem target North Clarendon from the west, comrade Chairman [of the PNP, Fitz Jackson], we are going to deliver North Clarendon…” O’Connor told the gathering, which included Jackson.
