A week after admitting that he ‘struggles’ sometimes with believing in his ability to sing, a seemingly more confident Dalton Harris has declared that he is capable of winning the X Factor UK competition and a record deal.

“I am capable…” he said in a social media post, which includes a photo of him posing seemingly at one of the X Factor shows with Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt.

Harris further stated that, like Bolt did for athletes, he is paving the way for young singers. “I am paving the way for those that will be after me,” he declared.

Harris, in an introduction to his performance on Saturday, also made it clear that he wants to secure a record deal before he returns to Jamaica. “I came here to sign a record deal and I am not leaving without that.”

He made his semi-final bid on X Factor with a thrilling rendition of Beyoncé’s hit song Listen, which was written for the 2006 musical film Dreamgirls.

The Jamaican, who received another post-performance standing ovation from judges, also elicited another prolonged applause from the X Factor studio audience.

“That was just the best performance we have had on X Factor so far…” declared Simon Cowell, chief judge. “When you’ve got a great song and someone reinterprets it in their own way with passion; I would love to send that song to whoever wrote it. I’m thrilled for you…” Cowell further told Harris.

Louis Tomlinson, the judge who also mentors Harris in the competition, commented: “Dalton, I would be so shocked if you weren’t in the finals. You are absolutely incredible and I’m so, so proud every single week you perform. You are brilliant and let me tell you forget about not having confidence because you are incredible.”

Harris will know if he advances to the semi-finals of the show when voting ends today, November 18.
