GUY’S HILL: Men urged to lead fight against car thieves, other criminals

The men of Guy’s Hill in St Catherine have been challenged to take the lead in curbing car stealing and other criminal activities taking place in their community.

Chairman of the Guy’s Hill Community Development Committee, Irvin Small, threw out the challenge at the Town Hall on Tuesday, November 19, while addressing an International Men’s Day Awards Ceremony.

He said: “I am not leaving this for the women. Men, you are being honoured today, please help us get rid of the unwanted people out of our community so that we can sleep in our beds at night and our children and ladies can walk on the streets without fear.”

Small further claimed that the criminals are known to the community.

“There are some people among us who are not welcomed in our various communities and we know them. They are the ones who are going to bring down your community if you don’t take a stand. I am never one for jungle justice, but there are other ways in which we can get rid of them out of our communities,” he said.

Small, who also is a Justice of the Peace, lamented that car stealing is among the crimes commonly committed in the Guy’s Hill area.

“I can’t like that Guy’s Hill is dubbed the car-stealing capital of Jamaica. Do we like that for our community? Do we like that title? No. We cannot like that title,” he said during the awards ceremony, which was held under the auspices of LASCO Top Cop and acting head of Guy’s Hill Police Station Corporal Samantha Brown-Thompson.
