The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said a decomposing body found with the throat slashed is believed to be that of 17-year-old Stefika Smith, who is a resident of Strawberry Hill district in Four Paths, Clarendon.
She was reported missing since Saturday, May 11.
The JCF said the body was found yesterday, May 13, at Georges Pen in Clarendon.
“Reports from the May Pen Police are that, about 10:30AM, a passer-by saw the body and summoned them,” the JCF explained.
“On arrival of the team, the body was seen lying on grass along the roadway, close to a cane field. The body had several wounds including its throat slashed. The scene was processed and it was removed to the morgue for confirmation of identity and post mortem.”
The JCF further said anyone with pertinent information should contact the May Pen Criminal Investigations Branch at 876-995-8670, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
Smith is at least the fourth ‘missing person’ to have been found murdered on the island within weeks.
On April 25, a decomposing body believed to be that of 41-year-old college lecturer Samuel Martin was discovered on a farm at Juno Crescent in the May Pen area of Clarendon. He went missing on Good Friday.
On April 30, the decomposing body of 11-year-old Trisha Morris was found in her community of Woodland district, Hanover. She was reported missing on April 29.
On April 16, the decomposing body of eight-year-old Shantae Skyers was found among rubble in an area of St Andrew known as Blue Hole. She went missing on April 11.
