Jhonica Hall, who lives in a single-parent household on Nugent Road in the Ewarton area of St Catherine, recently obtained eight CSEC subjects from the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).

“I feel elated about my results because I had a rough time studying and trying to understand the stuff I needed to attain the results I achieved,” said the young scholar, whose challenges were compounded by the natural death of her father 10 years ago.

“It was hard, but I pulled through by the grace of God as well as my siblings,” she told The Beacon.

Jhonica, a past student of Polly Ground Primary School in Ewarton and Westwood High in Trelawny, attained the highest grade possible (Grade One) in six of the subjects.

  • Mathematics – Grade One
  • English A – Grade One
  • Chemistry – Grade One
  • Biology – Grade One
  • Physics – Grade One
  • Spanish – Grade One

She also got a Grade Two in French and a Grade Three in English B (Literature).

“I believe I attained such results due to prayer and hard work,” said Jhonica, an aspiring dentist who is now trying to enroll in sixth form at Charlemont High School in Linstead.

She hopes that her accomplishment will inspire someone especially in her community.

“It can inspire the younger ones who are here to strive to do better than me,” Jhonica said.

Her mother, Maleica Lewin, is proud.

“I feel really proud about my daughter’s results because I know it wasn’t easy for her,” she told The Beacon, adding that being a single mother has forced her to work thrice as hard.

“It was rough because I have to work thrice as hard without any one to help, but I am always proud of my girls because they never fail me; they always produce good grades,” she further declared.
