Police have confirmed that a 23-year-old labourer from Beacon District in St Elizabeth died as a result of injuries he received in a two-vehicle accident along the Success main road last night, May 31.

The body of motorcyclist Chaddie Burton was found a distance away from his head, said the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

It explained: “Reports from the Black River police are that, about 10:35pm, the driver of a Nissan motor truck was travelling from Ridge Pen towards Mountain Side, and Burton was driving a motorcycle in the opposite direction.”

“Upon reaching a section of the roadway, Burton failed to keep left, and drove into the path of the Nissan motor truck, causing a collision,” the JCF said.

It further stated that the driver then lost control of the truck, which hit a gate wall on the opposite side of the roadway and overturned.

“Burton’s head got severed and was found 160 feet away from his body,” said the JCF.

“The two motor vehicles were extensively damaged. The police was summoned and the body was removed to the morgue.”

Meanwhile, the St Elizabeth accident happened a day after four people died in a two-bike collision on the Sheffield main road in neighbouring parish of Westmoreland. A fifth person from that Westmoreland crash has been hospitalized in serious condition.
