Crawle River returned to winning ways yesterday when it completed a 3-0 shellacking of would-be history maker One Connection.

One Connection was hoping to lift the winner’s trophy for the first time in the Insport Horace Dalley Football League, which kicked off with 23 teams in the Clarendon Northern constituency.

The team’s dream however started to vanish in the 39th minute of play when Leon Campbell found the net for Crawle River.

Crawle River dominated the match and missed a number of chances until the 72nd minute when Keno Allen scored the second goal, whipping his side’s fans into a frenzy.

One Connection, at that point, was a picture of dejection. It sunk deeper into despair when Allen again rattled the net in the 78th minute.

Manager of the victorious squad, Carol Robinson, told The Beacon that the win is particularly sweet, considering the off-field fight Crawle River encountered.

“I am so excited; I am so happy because of what we went through. They were saying that we were using ballers that weren’t registered and we knew it wasn’t true. We had to prove that, and to come out here and win.”

Robinson further stated that her team has been on a roll, and will defend its title next year.

“Last year we won the Northern Clarendon League, and this year we win the Horace Dalley League – of which we are very happy because years gone by we were also winners of this league.

“I am telling them that this is just the beginning. Come next year, we are coming back to defend our title,” added the Crawle River manager.

Meanwhile, Manager of the outclassed squad, Romaine Rowe, stated that One Connection is humble in defeat.

“We humbly take our defeat. We had a game plan going in, but, for some reason, the players didn’t play to the game plan,” he told The Beacon before One Connection collected its 100,000 cash prize.

Crawle River got $200,000 for the victory.

The Top Scorer in the competition is Oral Waysome, Most Valuable Player in the final match is Keno Allen, the Best Goalkeeper in the competition is Garth Heron, and the Most Disciplined Team in the league is Pedro River.

The third-place finisher, Jericho, collected $50,000 after defeating Morgan’s Pass 5-4 on penalty. Both teams, in the third-place decider, initially scored three goals apiece.
