Couple disarms, kills gunman during home invasion in St JamesJuly 27, 2018
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said a gunman who invaded the home of a couple at Moore Park in Adelphi, St James, has died after he was disarmed and injured.
His weapon was handed over to the police after the incident that happened yesterday, July 26.
The JCF said the Arcus 9 millimetre pistol involved was loaded with ten 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition.
“It was handed over to the police by a couple who disarmed a robber who invaded their home in Moore Park, Adelphi in the parish about 2am. The alleged robber was injured during the altercation and has since succumbed to his injuries,” the JCF said.
It did not disclose the identity of the gunman.
Meanwhile, the gun in that incident was among eight, along with more than 300 assorted rounds of ammunition, seized in the island within a 48-hour period ending yesterday.
Six of the eight guns were seized in St James, with the latest find happening during an operation at Phelman Corner in Salt Spring, between 4:30am and 9:30am yesterday.
In relation to that Salt Spring seizure, the JCF said: “Two firearms – an M16 rifle with a magazine containing thirteen 5.56 rounds of ammunition and a Taurus pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with thirteen 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition were seized.”
Four people were also arrested in that operation, which also saw the seizure of lead sheets and a book containing identity information of people living overseas.
In another of the St James cases, three guns were seized on Gordon Crescent in Granville on Wednesday, July 25.
“The two Smith and Wesson handguns and a Ruger 9 millimetre pistol, along with over 200 assorted rounds of ammunition, were seized during a special operation that was conducted about 11:30am,” added the JCF.
